Welcome to the Internet Home of Family Matters Education.

The goal of Family Matters is to provide research based quality education to empower individuals to manage their lives in healthy ways.

Family Matters Education is a privately owned organization which provides quality educational workshops for parents, teachers, organizations and professional conferences.

Geri Clouse began working with children as a pediatric dental hygienist in 1982, after graduating from the University Of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.  For ten years she witnessed the powerful effect respectful communication had on children — that their cooperation and trust could be gained through empathy, respect, descriptive praise and acceptance.

In 1992, after the birth of her first child, Geri accepted a position at Methodist Health Care System in San Antonio where she became a certified childbirth educator, and taught childbirth and beginning parenting education.  Five years later, in 1997, after recognizing a need for parenting education beyond the early years of a child’s life, Geri established Family Matters Education, to meet that need.  The educational workshops offered through Family Matters Education provide practical, effective tools that enable parents, administrators and teachers to communicate respectfully and successfully with children.

Geri’s workshops have been received enthusiastically throughout the San Antonio and Hill Country areas.  Her informative, research-based presentations are sprinkled with just the right dose of parenting humor and personal anecdotes to keep them interesting and fast-paced, and make them unforgettable.

Participants gain knowledge and confidence by working in small groups sharing ideas and supporting each other.  They come away from the group sessions more aware of the complexities and challenges of interacting with children, and equipped with the skills to overcome those challenges.

Geri is a Professional Master Registered Trainer in the Early Care and Education Career Development System. This professional resource provides trainings throughout the state of Texas for early child care teachers.

She is a Parent Involvement Facilitator trained in the Family Frameworks Curriculum developed by the Texas Association of School Boards.

She is a Certified Family Wellness Instructor trained in the Family Wellness Curriculum developed by Family Wellness Associates, of Salida, California. Family Wellness has trained over 10,000 instructors who have presented the Family Wellness programs to over 1,000,000 families around the world.

She serves as the program director and parent educator of the Positive Parenting Collaborative, supporting the Precious Minds New Connections Initiative in Kendall County. This initiative, which began in 2001, is funded by the Kronkosky Charitable Foundation, and provides parenting education to parents and caregiver with children from birth to under the age of four.

Geri, and her husband, Steven, have been married since 1984, and have two children, Madeline and Zachary, who provide much of the material for Geri’s workshops.
